I think these are the best out of the big 3 survival ration bars. I prefer the taste and consistency of Mainstay over Datrex. I'm just not a huge fan of coconut. The mild lemon flavor was tasty enough. I understand this is not a gourmet meal, and only meant as an emergency supplement food. Its more of a hard dough consistency which I also prefer over Datrex which crumbles apart just holding it. They come in 1200, 2400, and 3600 calorie packs. I prefer the 1200 calorie packs over the others because once they are open you can't reseal them. Make no mistake these won't sustain you for long periods unless you eat about a pack per day. 3600 calories over a few days only keeps you from starving. The average person burns well over 3600 calories a day in the outdoors; Maybe 2400 calories/day indoors with no exertion. I bought this to test out the flavor and the claims that it doesn't make the consumer thirsty. The flavor is a strong but pleasant lemon flavor and it did not make me thirsty. The way it is scored makes it easy to count calories consumed. I will buy more of this item in the future. I recommend it.
