This is great for backpacking. Better than aluminum and cheaper than titanium. It also nests with the Alpine cookset. The sides are high, so you can use it for soup or stew. It also doubles as a small frisby. Bohl (Cincinnati, Ohio) - See all my reviews    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: MSR Alpine Plate (Sports) I am using this plate as a base for a rotosserie oven! I purchased it and had to make just minor changes to it to make it completely acceptable to my application. The thickness of the material the plate is made of is fantastic! I brazed a piece of stainless steel to the middle, outside of the plate, for the drive mechanism of the grill. The plate accepted the braze with NO PROBLEMS, NO WARPAGE, NO DISCOLORATION, NO THINNING! These plates are GREAT!! They will hold up to ANY abuse normal cooking can throw at them!
