This light made me feel like a moron. You see, I spent over twice as much on a headlamp from another manufacturer who shall remain unnamed. I took that higher priced light out on a night-hike with my buddy, hiking ski hills to train for a Colorado 14er climb. My buddy showed up with this light, which was twice as bright as mine, had the same dimming capabilities, and added a red light option as well. And it did all this for, yes, less than half of what I paid for the other light. So I bought this one and it beats my old light in every area except one: it is rather bulky. I am a reasonably big guy (5'11" and 195 pounds), and my friend is over 6 feet, so for us this is not a problem. However, as great as this light is, I imagine a smaller built person--especially a petite woman--might feel a bit like Robocop walking around with this thing on. I use it regularly. I have yet to replace the batteries. It is very bright for close up work. After about 6 feet, the brightness drops off considerably. It's good for working in tight spaces. I paid about 1/2 what amazon is charging. This one gets rough work because if I lose it, I just buy another. They are available for less at your local big box home center, FYI. - Very bright for its size and price. - Nice to have a (surprisingly bright!) red light included. - White color artifacts aren't offensive. - Comfortable. Very comfortable. Thick pad against forehead. -Adjustable beam up and down. CONS: - No waterproofing, so don't wear it in the rain. - Not floody enough for arm's length work that requires peripheral vision, not even in the flood mode. - Up/down beam adjust starting to show wear already. Will it go wobbly soon? Don't know. - Ugly spot/distance beam with ring artifacts. Easy fix below. FIX: - I took off the clear lens and bead-blasted it inside and out. This spread the beam, got rid of the ugly artifacts, and gave me a useably floody... Read more |
